61-year-old man in critical condition after being shot at several times near Davison Freeway in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) -- A 61-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot at several times on a Metro Detroit roadway.

The Michigan State Police Special Investigation Section detectives responded to Henry Ford Hospital Wednesday evening after receiving a call that Detroit police were there with a shooting victim.

The detectives also arrived on scene at eastbound Davison Street, near Oakland Street in Highland Park, where officials say a man was shot at around 7 p.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, who is from Ypsilanti, was driving a Honda Odyssey traveling westbound on Davison Freeway, near Conant Street.

It's reported that a silver SUV was following the man.

When the victim exited Davison and was in the intersection of westbound Oakland Avenue, an unknown person, or persons, fired several rounds at the Honda --striking the victim several times.

The man is in critical condition at Henry Ford Hospital; however, his passenger was not hurt.

The suspect, their vehicle and the motive is currently all unknown.

Evidence was recovered from the intersection and MSP will continue their investigation.
