WAYNE (WWJ) – A man is hospitalized and investigations are underway after he was shot by police at the Ford Wayne Stamping Plant Saturday night.
Wayne police officers were called to the plant on Van Born around 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gun, according to Wayne and Michigan State Police officials.
When officers showed up they found the man outside of an employee entrance. He allegedly pointed a gun at officers.
After refusing to drop the weapon, one officer fired one shot, hitting the suspect.
The 53-year-old suspect was said to be in critical condition Saturday night. His name has not been released.
MSP officials said Sunday morning no officers or members of the public were hurt and MSP personnel were not involved in the incident.
Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case, which is being investigated by the MSP Second District Special Investigations Section. Once the investigation is complete, an investigator’s report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.
