BRANDON TWP. (WWJ) An Oakland County man, who was driving a tractor with his two-year-old cousin, has been released from jail.

The toddler fell off the tractor and died this weekend.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene of a little boy who had been injured in a tractor accident around 7:30 Saturday evening on Nelson William Dr. (600 block) near Hadley and Oakwood.

The man, 33, told deputies he tried to administer CPR to his little cousin. First responders rushed to the scene and took over, but he was already gone. He was formally pronounced dead at Ascension Genensys Hospital in Grand Blanc Twp.

The cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma.

The driver told deputies he had given his cousin from Sterling Heights and another child a ride. He also admitted he had been drinking before doing so.

The other child, whose age has not been disclosed, was not injured.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s said they are awaiting blood test results from the man before they send a report to the Prosecutor’s Office, who will determine if criminal charges should be filed.

The test results will take two to three weeks to come back.
