Metro Detroit wakes up to snow and slippery, dangerous roads

Who else fell for false spring?

There was no fooling Mother Nature on April 1 when metro Detroiters woke up and discovered they had been thrust back into winter. Winds were cold, snow littered the ground and roads were slippery and dangerous.

Real feel temperatures hovered at about 20 degrees.

Drivers on I-696, I-94 and M-59 all struggled to get where they were going on time on slippery, icy roads.

"We have lots of slippery conditions," WWJ's Dennis Neubacher reported, saying the ramp from Gratiot to westbound was 696 closed.

"696 is a pretty tough go," he added. "The east and the west sides where those snow bursts came through are really a problem spot."

Snow showers are expected to continue in bursts throughout the day, with a few sunny breaks. The high today is 37 degrees, with real feel temperatures falling overnight into the single digits.

Tomorrow will bring sunshine and a high of 48 degrees.

And then spring returns this weekend, breezy and mild Saturday and Sunday with temperatures hovering near 70 degrees by Monday.
