DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A large section of Michigan Avenue in Dearborn will soon be revitalized after the completion of a $17.9 million restoration.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will soon invest to mill and resurface US-12 between Oakwood Boulevard and Greenfield Road over a two-year period.
MDOT says this year's work will focus between Oakwood Boulevard and M-39, or the Southfield Freeway, and will be completed by November.
Next year's work will target the area between M-39 and Greenfield Road.
MDOT will work on curbs and gutters, guardrails and drainage improvements. There will also be work done on modernizing traffic signals and upgrading sidewalks and signs.
This work will improve the driving surface of the road and extend the life of the roadway.
Construction will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 6. MDOT crews will reduce traffic along Michigan Avenue between Oakwood Boulevard and Greenfield Road to two lanes in each direction.
During nights, weekends, and off-peak times, traffic may be reduced to one lane.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 227 jobs.
