LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) -- A mid-Michigan man is facing a slew of charges after authorities seized more than a dozen guns and over 200 grams of cocaine following a traffic stop.
The Lansing Police Department says wanted fugitive Tyrun Williams of Grand Ledge, Mich., was arrested on July 28. He was wanted on federal weapons and drug charges, which stemmed from a previous traffic stop by Lansing Township police officers, where five firearms and several different types of narcotics were seized.
On this most recent arrest, officials say, Williams again was found in possession of a firearm and suspected narcotics.
As a result, a follow-up investigation by the Capital Area Violent Crime Initiative and Secured Cities Partnership led to the seizure of 12 firearms, parts for additional firearms and over 200 grams of suspected cocaine.
Williams will now be facing even more federal charges, though authorities have not released any information about arraignment.
Michigan State Police troopers and the Lansing ATF assisted in the arrest.
Lansing police released two photos Thursday showing the drugs, guns and other items that were seized.
“This is another great example of the type of police work we can accomplish from proactive policing efforts and when agencies work together to address crime and safety,” Interim Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee said in a press release.
Lansing Township Police Chief John Joseph echoed those comments, emphasized all the weapons, drugs and money were seized as the result of one traffic stop made by a Lansing Township police officer.
"It’s a good day for law abiding citizens when arrests and seizures like this are made, I have no doubt someone would have been killed with one or more of these weapons had they not been lawfully seized,” Joseph said.
