FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- The search is on for a man who police say unsuccessfully tried to rob a Circle K convenience store in Monroe County.

Michigan State Police say they’re asking for the public’s help in tracking down the suspect, who attempted to rob the Circle K at 2700 North Dixie Highway in Frenchtown Township on Sunday morning.

The suspect approached the counter, armed with a knife, and demanded money from the store clerk. Authorities say the woman behind the counter refused to give the suspect any money.

After he left the store, authorities say two citizens chased the suspect into the Detroit Beach subdivision, but were unable to track him down. He was last seen heading south on North Dixie Highway from Grand Boulevard, according to police.

Police say the man entered the store three separate times between 6:30 a.m. and 7:05 a.m.

The suspect is described as a white man with a thin build and medium or long, dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black Carhartt jacket, dark colored pants, black shoes, black Under Armour gloves and a maroon ski mask.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Trooper Drzewiecki of the Michigan State Police Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
