CANTON (WWJ) -- Following a call from a concerned citizen, Canton police located a local 70-year-old man with dementia and Alzheimer's who they believe left home Thursday morning.

Jack Downie was found in the area of Haggerty and Joy Rd, about five miles north of his neighborhood near Michigan Ave and Haggerty.

Canton PD did not say what condition they found the elderly gentleman in, but he was taken to a local hospital where he could receive medical treatment.

Based on their missing person's report, authorities think Downie may have left home on foot on the morning of Mar. 30. There was particular concern about his disappearance because he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Canton PD thanked the public for their help in locating the man.
