DETROIT (WWJ) -- "His voice, that smile, and him hugging me, calling me Mom — I miss that. And it just hurts me so bad because he's not here with me for no reason...to gun violence."

A heartbroken mother is pleading for information from the community in the case of her son who was murdered in Detroit last summer.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the tip that leads to the arrest of the person who killed 20-year-old Julius Johnson, Jr.

According to police, Johnson's loved ones could not have imagined that he'd never return when he left his home on Aug. 21, 2022.

He got a call or a text message, investigators said, and left in his car: a purple Dodge Challenger with black stripes.

Early the next morning, Johnson's body was found in his car on Cedargrove Street on the city's east side.

Police said the young man, who known by the nickname "Ju Ju," had been shot multiple times.

The motive for this killing is unknown, and there have been no arrests in the case.

While reaching out to the public for help, Johnson's mother, Shadale Pickett, said Julius wasn't just her son, but her best friend, too.

She says he did everything for her and his family.

"(He was a) son who was just trying to make it out in this world," Pickett said, in a video shared by Detroit Police. "He wasn't no street kid; Julius was a lovable son."
