DUNDEE (WWJ) -- Residents in Monroe County were forced to evacuate their apartments Tuesday night following a chemical explosion from a homemade bomb.

Officials said the "minor" chemical explosion happened around 9:30 p.m. at Village Point Apartments in the area of Rawson Street -- north of Tecumseh Street -- in Dundee.

The Dundee Police Department and fire officials provided residents with shelter offsite as a safety precaution.

A post on the department's facebook page said the explosion was from what appears to be a homemade "drano bomb."

During their search, officials found a second device that was near the same location.

Michigan State Police and hazmat crews assisted with the safe removal of the device as well as preserving the device for evidence.

No information is available at this time on if a suspect is in custody.

There are currently no reported injuries.

This is a developing story, stay with WWJ for the latest.
