DETROIT (WWJ) – A motorcyclist has died after losing control of their bike and being hit by a car on I-94 in Detroit late Saturday night.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. when the victim, a 34-year-old from Romulus, was negotiating a curve on the eastbound I-96 ramp to westbound I-94, according to Michigan State Police.

When they lost control of the motorcycle, the operator and bike both slid down the embankment and onto I-94, MSP officials said.

At the same time, a 31-year-old driver from Detroit was driving a car west on I-94 when they encountered the bike. The driver swerved to miss the motorcycle, but hit the operator, according to MSP.

Investigators discovered the driver of the car was impaired and they were arrested. Their name was not released.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not released. The investigation is still ongoing, pending medical examiner reports and blood results.
