HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) – A man is behind bars after allegedly crashing his car while drunk at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township Monday afternoon.

Michigan State Police were called to the air base around 2:20 p.m. on the report that someone had struck the yellow poles at the gate with his car.

MSP officials say the suspect, whose name and age have not been released, then immediately jumped out of his car when the Military Police approached him.

When troopers showed up, they noticed the suspect was displaying multiple signs of intoxication.

Troopers ordered the man to put his hands behind his back. But he refused.

When he was ordered a second time to put his hands behind his back, he tried to pull away. A trooper grabbed his arm and took him to the ground, officials said.

The trooper and the MP’s handcuffed the suspect.

Officials say no one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was taken to the Macomb County Jail, where he agreed to a breath test. Officials say his BAC was more than three times the legal limit.

It was not clear what prompted the man to show up at the air base.

The man is being held at the county jail and officials are submitting an investigators’ report to the prosecutor’s office.
