(WWJ) The Michigan State Police is showcasing an assist by the MSP Aviation Unit to catch a crook in Oakland County.
Help from above led to the arrest of a home invasion suspect who fled on foot in Ferndale on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Video released by MSP shows Ferndale Police officers with a K-9 attempting to track a suspect in a neighborhood, north of 8 Mile Rd. near Woodward Ave.
Using thermal imagery, a trooper in the air is able to pinpoint an area between two homes, where he suspects the suspect might be hiding, and leads police right to him.
"I've got a little bit of heat," the trooper tells Ferndale Police, over the radio. "For the officer walking up the driveway on the right side... It's going to be just to the right, right there, just to the right, in the bushes. It's behind the K-9."
The video then shows an officer crawling into the bushes where instructed, and pulling the suspect out.
"You found him, he is in custody. Thank you for your assistance," a Ferndale police officer tells MSP.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and police said they were not looking for any additional suspects in connection with the crime.
