Detroit man charged with breaking into home, stealing gun from car in Ferndale

(WWJ) A Detroit man was caught hiding in the bushes after it's alleged he broke into a home and several cars in Ferndale.

Michael Davis, 26, was arraigned in 43rd District Court Thursday on charges in connection with crimes late Tuesday night.

At around 11:30 p.m., police said the suspect broke into a home in the 200 block of E Chesterfield, north of 8 Mile Rd. near Woodward Ave.

The homeowner was alerted by a noise, discovered the crime, and immediately called 911, police said.

The suspect fled on foot, Ferndale officers responded and a perimeter was established.

About two hours later, with help from the Michigan State Police Aviation Unit, police found and arrested Davis in the 300 block of Spencer.

Officers recovered stolen property along the suspect’s route, police said, and a stolen handgun was recovered when officers arrested the suspect.

The investigation revealed that Davis broke into several cars in the neighborhood before the home invasion, and the gun had been taken during one of the vehicle break-ins. according to police.

Davis is charged by the Oakland County Prosecutors Office with the following: Home Invasion - 1st Degree, a 20-year felony; Larceny of a Firearm, a 5-year felony; Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a 5-year felony, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, a 2-year felony.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety and Davis’ next court appearance was set for Aug. 12.
