2 MSP officers hospitalized after car struck by suspected drunk driver in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two Michigan State Police troopers were hospitalized after their car was struck by a drunk driver in Detroit.

While investigating a crash on Southfield Freeway around 12:20 Friday morning, the officers were in their car when they were struck from behind by a Jeep Grand Wagoner.

MSP believes the driver the 38-year-old driver from Oak Park was intoxicated.

Officers conducted a search of the Jeep and located a pistol.

The driver was arrested and is currently in custody.

The two troopers were transported to a local hospital, where one had a possible concussion and the other sustained a lower-back injury.

Authorities said the officers were treated and later released from the hospital.

The investigation continues, as the incident pends further evaluation and formal charges.
