Ferndale woman arrested for drunk driving after crash caught on MSP video

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Ferndale woman is facing drunk driving charges after pulling out in front of an oncoming vehicle and crashing into a Michigan State Police car in Royal Oak Saturday.

State police say one of the Metro North sergeants was on patrol around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.7 when they had stopped at a stop sign at Pasadena and Wyoming Avenues in the Township of Royal Oak.

MSP released video of the incident on Twitter Monday, showing a black GMC Yukon stopped at the stop sign on Pasadena across from the patrol car.

Authorities say the GMC pulled out in front of a Lincoln that was headed towards Pasadena on Wyoming and the driver of the Lincoln couldn’t stop, colliding with the GMC and pushing it into the patrol car.

All three vehicles involved in the crash were towed. MSP did not mention any injuries during the incident.

An investigation revealed a 40-year-old woman from Ferndale was impaired behind the wheel of the GMC, with a reported blood alcohol level of .17, more than twice the legal limit.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was arrested and lodged. The case is still being investigated, pending prosecutor review.
