SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating yet another freeway shooting on I-696 in Oakland County.
As of 7:30 p.m., EB I-696 at Orchard Lake is closed.
State Police were dispatched to I-696 near Telegraph in Southfield on reports of shots fired on the freeway around 5:50 Saturday evening.
Preliminary investigation revealed the 911 caller said his vehicle was struck by a stray bullet. He told investigators he saw two people shooting at each other from their cars and he got caught in the crossfire. Both of his windows were shot out, he said.
Troopers found a bullet hole in his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
This comes just over a day after a road rage shooting on I-696 near Bermuda/Mohawk in Royal Oak shut down the freeway for about five hours. A 19-year-old suspect is in custody for Friday’s shooting. State Police said there have been dozens of freeway shootings across metro Detroit since last summer.
