State Police investigate reports of road rage shooting on I-96 in Livonia

(WWJ) Michigan State Police are piecing together reports of a road rage shooting on I-96 in Livonia.

In a Twitter post, State Police said they received a call overnight Friday around 11:10 from a driver who claimed to be a victim of a shooting. He told troopers he was “road raging with the driver of a red car" on westbound I-96 near Telegraph.

He did not want to make a report.

Shortly after, the Detroit Regional Communications Center got a call from the alleged driver of the red car. The suspect stated they had a Concealed Pistol License and had fired the weapon; according to State Police. Unlike the original caller, they chose to make a report.

The suspect reported the shooting happened on E/B I-96 near Newburgh, and two shots were fired. The suspect believed one of the bullets struck the victim’s tire.

The first caller confirmed the gunshot hit his tire and caused a flat, State Police said.

“A search of the freeway did not reveal any evidence,” State Police wrote in a tweet.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, please call (734) 287-5000.
