GRAND BLANC TWP. (WWJ) Michigan State Police said an Oakland County man is hospitalized for chemical burns sustained when his 18-year-old daughter doused him in Lye powder.
Troopers were called to Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township (Genesee County) after a man arrived in the Emergency Room on Friday covered in chemical burns all over his head, torso, and extremities.
The troopers searched the victim’s home where they found Lye drain cleaner poured across the couch. Paramedics had found the victim lying there; according to State Police.
Further investigation revealed the victim’s 18-year-old daughter threw Lye powder on her father with water to catalyze the reaction and cause the injuries. She left her father unconscious on the couch and fled the scene, State Police said. He was discovered by a neighbor, who called first responders.
His condition is unknown. The motive is also unclear.
The suspect was taken into custody at the Oakland County Jail pending prosecutor review.
The location of the home and the victim’s identity will not be released to protect him.
