Update: MSP investigating two Wednesday afternoon shootings on I-75; confirm one reported shooting did not happen on freeway

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating one Wednesday afternoon freeway shooting along I-75 in Detroit after confirming the second reported shooting was not, in fact, a freeway shooting.

Wednesday evening it was confirmed through MSP investigation that the reported shooting on I-75 near 7 Mile was not a freeway shooting.

Authorities are currently attempting to locate the occurrence of the shooting and if it was an accidental shooting by an occupant inside the vehicle.

Northbound I-75 remained closed at 7 Mile Road for several hours as troopers investigated.

Police say the 23-year-old man from Clinton Township told them he was entering the freeway from 7 Mile, attempting to flee from a white sedan that was following him.

The victim said the suspect was hanging out the rear window when he fired shots.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak by his cousin where he said he was hit once from a shooting that said happened on the freeway. He's being treated at the hospital. His condition is unknown.

The victim refused to tell police where his vehicle was located and became uncooperative and stopped answering, police said.

Troopers conducted a sweep of the freeway, but no evidence was located.

MSP are still investigating an incident closer to downtown that left the ramp from southbound I-75 to I-94 closed.

It all unfolded around 4:15 p.m., when MSP says they received a call from a man reporting he may have been shot at.

When troopers arrived to the scene, they found the man’s disabled vehicle had been shot. The man said he was southbound on the exit ramp when he heard a loud pop and his vehicle lost power.

One bullet hole was found in the front of the vehicle. No one was injured in the incident.

Police say the man saw a black sedan heading eastbound on I-94 after hearing the pop. The investigation is still ongoing.
