DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are currently looking for a driver who crashed into a pole and split his car in half after he fled a traffic stop in Detroit.

A trooper conducted a traffic stop Thursday morning at Cadieux and Hayes on the city's east side for an improper plate. The suspect driver initially pulled over but then fled when the officer got out of the car.

The trooper did not pursue the vehicle according to departmental policy, said officials.

The driver continued at a high rate of speed before he crashed into a telephone pole, which split his car in half.

When approaching the vehicle, troopers saw that the driver wasn't in the car.

Detroit Police say that green light cameras captured the suspect run from the car between the houses after the crash, so K-9 units were called to the scene where they tried to track the suspect.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell, who was on the scene, said the front of the older Ford Taurus, including its front doors and engine compartment, is sitting in the front yard of a house on Hampshire Street.

The other half of the car, including the rear wheels, trunk, passenger rear door and the hood liner from inside, are across the street in a parking lot.

No injuries have been reported.

Troopers were not able to locate the suspect and are continuing to investigate this incident
