MSP investigating shootout between teens outside school in Royal Oak Twp.

ROYAL OAK TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- Two teens are in custody after a fight in Royal Oak Township led to gunfire.

Michigan State Police say troopers were dispatched to the Tri-County Education Center near 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting in the parking lot.

The suspect told police that he was surrounded by several teens who wanted to fight him. He pulled out a knife, causing the group to back away.

The teen and his friend then went back to his home and returned with a shotgun, firing it into the ground. No one was injured in the incident.

Police apprehended two teens at the scene and they were taken in for questioning. MSP says troopers have located the other suspects and are working to apprehend them.

MSP will release more information as it becomes available.

The Tri-County Education Center is “an innovative middle & high school for alternative students ages 11 - 21 and adult students aged 22+” according to its website.
