ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A suspect has been arrested after going on a vandalism spree over the weekend in Royal Oak.
It happened Saturday night along Woodward Avenue in the area of 13 Mile Road, as the man went block to block, allegedly throwing rocks through storefront windows.
Seven total businesses were damaged, while dozens of vehicles at a car dealership were damaged too, according to Royal Oak police.
One auto detailing shop that was hit by the vandalism had held their grand opening earlier that same night, only to have their front door smashed hours later.
While a 41-year-old Pontiac man has been taken into custody, Royal Oak police officials have not released much information, including a possible motive behind the destruction.
Authorities believe the suspect was experiencing a mental health crisis. He was committed and underwent evaluation, according to police.
Police officials said a total dollar amount of the damages has not yet been calculated, as businesses are still waiting on estimates.
