CLARKSTON (WWJ) -- One of the four students killed in the Oxford High School shooting on Nov. 30 will soon have a mural to commemorate her.
A Clarkston High School senior and friend is coordinating a mural of 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin so she can be remembered as more than a victim.
Aidan Hepler, 18, the organizer of the mural, said he and Madisyn became friends while she was a student at Clarkston High School before she transferred to Oxford High School for her senior year.
"She was a really good photographer and an artist so I thought it'd only be appropriate to paint a mural of her," said Hepler.
Originally, Hepler wanted the mural in downtown Clarkston, even starting a petition for its location that garnered around 30,000 signatures. But Hepler was directed to Clarkston's mayor and it was decided it'd be a better fit to have a mural at the school.
The mural will be painted in Clarkston High School's library.
Hepler said a professional muralist out of Berkely, Zach Curtis, has volunteered his time and talent to paint the mural. Clarkston students will be able to contribute towards painting the background while Curtis paints the picture of Baldwin.
No date has yet been given for the start of the mural.
Baldwin, along with Tate Myre, Justin Shilling and Hana St. Juliana died from the mass shooting carried out by 15-year-old student Ethan Crumbley who is charged with four counts of premeditated murder, along with other charges, including terrorism.
