ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- Police say there is no cause for alarm in Macomb County's Roseville, where two schools went into lockdown over a false report of a gun threat.
Roseville Police Chief Ryan Monroe said officers received a call shortly after noon on Tuesday from a junior high school student who claimed that another student had been threatened with a gun.
Monroe it turned out that the report was "completely false," and that the whole thing was a hoax. No gun was found and no one was hurt.
Both Roseville Junior High School and nearby Steenland Elementary went into lockdown for about 40 to 45 minutes as a precaution during the early afternoon.
Classes then resumed as normal for the remainder of the school day.
Police are still investigating, the chief said.
It's not yet clear if the student who made the call may face charges.
This incident comes amid a rash of reported threats and related investigations in school all over metro Detroit, following last weeks deadly mass shooting at Oxford High School in Oxford Township.
