(WWJ) A 51-year-old Independence Township man is facing charges, accused of attacking two Pontiac men with a machete, killing one of them.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the disturbing crime took place Tuesday morning, at a home in the 50 block of Oliver Street in Pontiac.
Deputies and EMS responded to a 911 call at around 5 a.m. about two people who had been stabbed. Another caller, identified as a neighbor, reported that a man had knocked on his door yelling for help.
Arriving at the scene, deputies found a 27-year-old man dead on the floor of the dining room, "severely lacerated," and "lying in a pool of blood," according to the sheriff's office report.
Outside the house deputies found the second victim, a 59-year-old man, who was sufferings severe lacerations to his head. He was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The surviving victim told investigators that the suspect came over to buy narcotics, and became enraged when he couldn’t get them.
The man said the suspect then grabbed a machete and attacked both him and the other victim. The suspect also appeared to have attacked them with a steak knife, investigators said.
The sheriff's office said deputies were able to follow a trail of blood from the scene to the backyard of a home on Marquette Street, where they found the suspect.
The alleged stabber, officials said, was lying on the lawn and apparently overdosing.
Paramedics took him to the hospital were he was treated and placed under arrest. Listed in stable condition, he remains in custody at the hospital awaiting an arraignment.
Back at the scene, deputies recovered and secured a bloodied machete and a bloodied, broken steak knife believed to have been used in the attacks.
No names have been released as the incident remains under investigation.
