Oakland County pot shop looking to hire veterans as cannabis delivery drivers

WALLED LAKE, Mich. (WWJ) -- Ahead of Veteran’s Day on Thursday, Nov. 11, one marijuana business in Oakland County is doing their part to help those who served the country.

The Greenhouse of Walled Lake is launching a cannabis delivery program and owner Jerry Millen says he only wants to hire vets as drivers.

Millen is looking to hire 12 men and women who served in the armed forces for well-paying jobs. Drivers will be given a company car, reimbursed for gas, and will earn up to $50,000 a year.

“I want to hire veterans. They need jobs,” Millen told WWJ. “Delivering cannabis is not a real hard job -- you drive around with cannabis, you collect some money, and hopefully they tip you. It’s a fun job. You get to drive around town, selling weed.”

Millen says no knowledge of the cannabis industry is necessary to be hired.

The delivery program begins Tuesday so drivers are needed soon. A valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record are required.

In addition to launching the new delivery program, Greenhouse is also selling special THC-infused chocolate bars to help veterans.

The store, Oakland County’s first recreational dispensary, began selling the UBake Edibles on Friday, which come in special patriotic packaging. By selling 1,000 candy bars, Greenhouse and UBake have committed to donate at least $10,000 to veterans, half of which will go to the Vets Returning Home Charity, and the other half to five needy veterans, who will receive $1,000 each.

“Look, these men and women have kicked a** for us all over the world and it’s time for our community to help these guys. Because a lot of times, our government’s not doing it, so as a private citizen, that’s what I’m here for,” Millen told WWJ.

Those looking to apply for the delivery driver positions can send resumes or emails to info@greenhousemi.com.
