OXFORD (WWJ) -- The term #OxfordStrong is more than just a hashtag -- it’s become a movement for the members of a metro Detroit community devastated by tragedy.

Various GoFundMe pages have been shared online in support of the survivors -- which include six students and a teacher -- as they continue to work toward recovery.

One of those survivors is a 17-year-old student who sustained gunshot wounds to her chest and both shoulders, and remains hospitalized as she undergoes further treatment.

Following a surgical procedure this week, the Oxford High School student got an emotional surprise from her tennis team that undoubtedly lifted her spirits.

As she looked on through a hospital window, the teen athlete was shocked to see a crowd of her friends and coaches, who had gathered in the hospital parking lot below to show their love and support.

In the clip, an Oxford High School tennis coach can be heard giving words of encouragement to the teen over the phone, as her teammates hold up signs and wave their tennis rackets.

It’s the exact kind behavior that has become synonymous with a town that has shown tremendous strength in the wake of an unthinkable tragedy.
