TRENTON (WWJ) – Parents are frustrated after a second threat of violence in a week was made against Trenton Public Schools on Tuesday.
Trenton police officials say they were made aware of a possible threat against the school made on social media Tuesday morning.
Authorities worked with school administrators to “swiftly identify the person who made the threat.”
Investigators determined there was “never a credible threat to the school, students or staff” and the person responsible was removed from school.
As the case is now being sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities have not released any information about the person responsible or the exact contents of the threat.
Authorities did not say which school within the district was involved in the incident.
“The Trenton Police Department remains committed to the safety and security of the Trenton Public Schools and the entire community,” officials said in a statement.
But some parents voiced concerns on the Trenton Police Department’s Facebook page after another threat at the school was determined to be not credible last Friday.
“I’m not sure what constitutes credibility in this situation, but I personally believe the threat alone to harm/take lives of innocent people warrants action,” one user wrote. “This is the second threat within a week. The individual needs to be permanently removed from the school district and face appropriate discipline on a legal level.”
“How long will we wait? All it takes is once to go from “Not credible” to “Forever remembered”. It’s time to implement the appropriate measures,” the post said.
“These kids need to be expelled. This was the 2nd threat that happened within the last week,” another user wrote. “Just because they are not a creditable [sic] threat at the moment does not mean they won't be in the future! This is all so sad!”
This is the latest of a number of threats against Metro Detroit schools. Prosecutors have continually vowed to charge those who make threats to the fullest extent of the law.
