TROY, Mich. (WWJ) – Two Dearborn teenagers are behind bars after an alleged pharmacy robbery sparked a high-speed chase that ended near the Oakland Mall in Troy Monday night.

Royal Oak police say the two young men, ages 19 and 17, are accused of robbing the Rite Aid pharmacy on North Main Street, near Crooks Road, around 7:20 p.m. Monday.

Police received numerous 911 calls reporting two men held the pharmacy at gunpoint and fled the scene in a black Dodge Durango.

Authorities did not disclose what the suspects took from the pharmacy.

Shortly after the robbery, a Royal Oak police officer saw the suspects' vehicle in the area of Crooks and Vinsetta and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the Durango took off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The suspects led police on a Chase through Royal Oak, Birmingham and Troy.

During the chase, police say the passenger threw a gun out of the vehicle. The weapon was recovered by police officers.

Troy police officers assisted Royal Oak police with the pursuit, which eventually came to an end in the Oakland Mall parking lot. Several tipsters told the WWJ newsroom of a large police presence at the mall Monday night, but police did not provide any details other than confirming there was an incident.

A video on Twitter showed what tipsters described as 20 or more police cars on the scene.

Royal Oak police said Tuesday both suspects – whose names have not yet been revealed – were taken into custody without incident.

Tipsters said Monday night the police presence was near the Sportsman's Warehouse store, but police did not provide that information on Tuesday.

Both suspects are facing charges of armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and larceny from a building. The 19-year-old driver of the Durango is also looking at charges of fleeing and eluding police and possession of a synthetic narcotic.

Police say the case is still under investigation and are asking anyone with any additional information to contact the Royal Oak Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division Lt. Al Carter at (248) 246-3456.
