(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting on the Southfield Freeway, in an apparent case of road rage.
MSP troopers confirming the shooting, reported by a witness, that happened on northbound M-39 between I-96 and Grand River Ave. late Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators say it started when a woman was allegedly cut-off by another vehicle. After she honked her horn, police say a passenger in that other car shot at her.
The woman was not hit, and no injuries were reported.
Police are now searching for the suspect vehicle, which they believe was stolen.
At around 5:45 p.m., MSP closed northbound M-39 at I-96 -- as well as the I-96 east and westbound ramps to northbound M-39 -- to allow troopers to investigate.
The freeway and ramps reopened to traffic just before 9:30 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
This incident follows a string of more than a dozen freeway shootings in metro Detroit over the summer, and a few into the fall. State Police said several of the shootings were linked to "road rage," and none of them were related.
