Northern Michigan man arrested after police find over 50 guns at his house

MONTMORENCY COUNTY (WWJ) -- A northern Michigan man is facing weapons charges after State Police found more than 51 guns on his property.

Troopers and deputies with the Otsego County Sheriff's Department were investigating a hit and run crash on Monday.

While the suspect was being interviewed at his residence on Black River Road in Montmorency County, police spotted several guns in his home.

The 50-year-old man -- a known felon who shouldn't have had any weapons -- told police along with the guns in his home, he had others in another building on his property.

In addition to the 51 guns, which included one fully automatic weapon, police also seized thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The suspect is currently facing charges for both the crash and the weapons.
