The arrest comes a day after the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says three people were found dead inside a home shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of Fishville Road in Grass Lake Township, about 10 miles east of Jackson.

The victims, all killed from apparent gunshot wounds, have been identified as 80-year-old Delmar Eugene Frale, 70-year-old Edward John Kantzler and 70-year-old Michael George Pauli.

Borton, 43, had been staying at the home, but was missing Sunday morning when police began investigating.

Kantzler’s vehicle, a 2006 Ford Explorer bearing license plate No. EDH 1595, was also missing, and police suspected Borton may have been driving the SUV.

Borton had been wanted by Grand Rapids police for one count of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm into a building. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office did not elaborate on that crime.

Grand Rapids officials and Michigan State Police had been executing a search warrant when Borton was arrested, but it is unclear if the warrant was related to his previous charges in Grand Rapids, or the triple homicide in Jackson.

The Jackson Major Crimes Unit -- consisting of Michigan State Police, Jackson Police, Blackman Township Public Safety and Jackson Sheriff’s Office -- had been assisting in the search, and the situation remains under investigation.
