DETROIT (WWJ) -- After standing up for a woman who was being harassed, a Detroit security guard became the victim of a hit-and-run -- now police are trying to find the person responsible.

Detroit police say the incident happened on July 12, when 30-year-old Lamar Waller got into an argument with a man in a parking lot of a club where Waller does security.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Waller's family said he was protecting a woman the suspect was harassing.

Shortly thereafter, at around 1:20 a.m., the suspect followed Waller to a CVS on 8 Mile Road near the Southfield Freeway. When Waller got out of his car, the suspect acted like he was leaving before he pulled behind Waller, hit and ran over him. He then fled the scene.

Waller was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced brain-dead. His wife took him off of life support Monday, Fox 2 Detroit reports.

Police say the suspect was driving a newer model black Dodge Durango with black rims. He’s described as a man in his mid 20s to 30s with a short haircut and medium build. There was also a woman with him in the SUV.
