DEARBORN (WWJ) -- There's a new phone scam targeting metro Detroiters.
Dearborn Police say they’re receiving reports from residents who are receiving calls from scammers claiming to be from government agencies.
The callers are reportedly requesting over-the-phone payments for fines, taxes, and other collections.
Police advise that anyone who receives a call should request an in-person meeting, and use a local police department as the meeting location.
If approached in person, officials say to request identification from the individual.
Additionally, police are reminding residents that government agencies will never contact people directly for payments.
