OAK PARK (WWJ) -- Police are saying the shooting death of a popular Metro Detroit jeweler was committed by someone he knew.

Oak Park authorities are calling the murder a "targeted hit," after a man fired a dozen shots into Daniel Hutchinson's luxury SUV Wednesday night, shortly after he left Hutch's Jewelry at 8 Mile Road and Greenfield.

The 47-year-old man from Pleasant Ridge later died at the hospital.

Officials say Hutchinson's wife was in the vehicle with him, but wasn't hurt.

Police have a 23-year-old suspect in custody, but say they are still searching for a motive.

Hutchinson was known for supplying high-priced diamond jewelry to famous rappers, like Rick Ross and Sada Baby.
