SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- The boyfriend of a pregnant Southfield woman who was struck and killed outside an apartment building Sunday night is facing several felony charges.
However, he isn't the driver who struck her.
Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren says that while the suspect didn't strike Tiara Jones with a car - his actions led to the accident.
Barren says Davon Lovan, the victim's boyfriend and the father of her baby, fired a shot at the driver, Jones' ex-boyfriend.
"[Lovan] produced a handgun and pointed that handgun at the driver and stated that he would kill him," said Barren. "The driver -- fearing that he would be shot -- placed the vehicle in reverse and ultimately struck Ms. Jones."
Barren says that Lovan was on probation and had several outstanding warrants. The driver who struck Jones is not being charged.
"There's no argument that should end in a loss of life," said Barren. "I've said this many times as I've met with community and media outlets: guns will get you in more trouble than whatever it gets you out of."
Doctors were able to safely deliver Jones' baby - a little boy.
