SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — People in the Great Lakes state said they'd be willing to gain 12 lb. if they could keep indulging in their favorite glass of wine, can of beer, fancy cocktail or preferred spirit.

The report conducted through DrugAbuse.com surveyed 4,200 people who said they would be willing to gain weight if it meant they could keep drinking alcohol.

Michiganders said they are prepared to gain 12 lb. to keep drinking alcohol.

The Wolverine State fell on the lower end of the survey, with Rhode Island drinkers being the most accepting; they said they wouldn't mind carrying around an extra 28 pounds if it meant they could keep tipping them back.

On the other end of the scale, Hawaii, South Dakota, Utah and Vermont were the most health-conscious; drinkers in these states said they would only allow an 8 lb. weight gain.

In another twist, more than half of people surveyed wrongly believe that calories in alcohol are different than those from food and other beverages.
