DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is on for a suspect in an apparent road rage shooting on a Detroit freeway late Saturday night that sent a man to the hospital.

Michigan State Police say the shooting happened on the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway between Plymouth and Joy shortly before 11 p.m.

Men in two different cars apparently exchanged words while driving down the freeway, and it eventually escalated to gun violence, according to MSP.

The driver of what is believed to be a green car pulled up alongside the victim’s car, pulled out a gun and fired shots.

Authorities say the driver was hit once in the right bicep, while a female inside his car was not injured in the shooting.

Officials did not say what sparked the apparent road rage shooting.

The suspect was seen exiting the freeway at Joy Road, while the victim got off at Warren and called 911. An ambulance took him to Beaumont Dearborn for treatment.

His condition was not clear.

Authorities closed the freeway while they investigated, eventually finding multiple 9mm casings near the scene of the shooting.

The victim is also a CPL holder, and two firearms were seized from his vehicle as part of the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
