(WWJ) -- A long-time Ferndale staple has closed its doors for good, in part due to a staffing shortage brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rosie O’Grady’s announced on Saturday night on Facebook that Sunday would be its last day of business, and hours later the Irish pub had issued its final last call after 40 years of business.
“It’s been a good ride and unfortunately, tomorrow, June 27 will be Rosie’s Last Call,” the Facebook post read.
The post noted that “ongoing staffing shortages” were one of the main reasons for the closure.
Rosie’s, located on the corner of 9 Mile Road and Allen Street in downtown Ferndale, was known for themed parties, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and “off the rails Pride afterparties."
According to the social media message, the owners are "hard at work reimagining the corner of 9 and Allen." What those plans may be, however, are unclear. A story from Eater Detroit says the restaurant group that owned Rosie's and several other Ferndale establishments had submitted a request for a patio at the location earlier this year, but later decided to table those plans.
A message on the Rosie O’Grady’s website on Monday evening simply read “Thank you & goodnight -- Rosie’s.”
