ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - There is no rescue too big or too small for authorities in St. Clair Shores -- not even if the call for help involves a furry, four-legged victim who managed to get stuck in a sewer.

St. Clair Shores firefighters said they sprang into action on Thursday after receiving a "very unique" call about a dog that had accidentally fell into a sewer.

Authorities added the sewer was being worked on and the dog became entangled in a ladder.

Fire crews from station 1 and 2 worked on a plan to free the animal, named Rosie, taking into account "hazardous aspects of the confined space."

"Once inside, firefighters were able to fully assess how the dog was trapped and extrication tools were then lowered down to free the dog," the fire department said. "Thankfully, Crews were able to safely lift the dog out of the sewer with no injuries."

The department posted a photo of Rosie and Firefighter/Paramedics Maier and McCormick shortly after she was rescued to social media with the owner's permission.

"We are happy to share this success story," the department added.
