ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WWJ) -- A convicted sex offender from Genesee County is back behind bars and looking at the possibility of life in prison after he allegedly exposed himself to a teenage girl who was shopping in Oakland County last month.
Steven James Terry of Montrose has been charged with being a sexually delinquent person for indecent exposure, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. He was arraigned Saturday and is being held at the Oakland County Jail on a $7,500 cash/surety bond.
That felony carries a punishment of up to life in prison if convicted, according to the sheriff’s office.
Terry, 46, has a history of sexual crimes dating back to 1998 and has been a registered sex offender since 2011, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office says a 14-year-old girl was shopping at a store in the 3100 block of Rochester Road on Oct. 30 when she saw a man -- later identified as Terry -- walking back and forth past the glass door multiple times.
When Terry saw the girl looking at him, he allegedly opened his jacket and exposed himself to the teen, before walking away.
After the incident, sheriff’s detectives reached out to other law enforcement agencies in the area and learned that both Michigan State Police and the Canton Police Department had received reports of similar incidents with a suspect matching Terry’s description.
MSP obtained a warrant charging Terry with a separate incident in Groveland Township two days earlier.
The sheriff’s office says Terry was convicted of being a sexually delinquent person in Genesee County back in 1998 and in 2013 he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct with intent to commit sexual penetration.
Last year, Terry was convicted of aggravated indecent exposure in Ottawa County on the west side of the state.
