(WWJ) As the calendar clicks over into October on Saturday, a local retail chain is bracing for an influx of customers: "Usually October's our best month of the year."
Mark Almond, co-owner of the Metro Detroit-based lingerie and gift boutique Lover's Lane says sexy costumes sell so well during the Halloween season that they're having to hire extra staff.
Since they started selling Halloween outfits about 20 years ago, they've become very popular, Almond said.
Plus, Sweetest Day is coming up on October 15.
"Sexy, provocative, risqué costumes is more our customers' appetite, what we specialize in," he told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill. "Something different than you'd find in a Halloween USA or in Party City, et cetera."
Is this the sort of thing that someone would wear to a Halloween party?
"Parties, and we also do what we call 'roleplay outfits'," Almond explained. "So, these are even more provocative that are just bedroom and roleplay outfits... We have both."
McNeill asked Almond which costume is most in-demand.
"Oh, every year it's different," he said. "You know, a lot of it trends on what's in the movies or what's just hot. I don't even know what's hot this year yet... It's a little premature, early to say, but every year it's different."
Almond noted that all Lovers Lane stores were closed for 80 days during the COVID-19 pandemic. They reopened gradually, with limited hours, but business has come back "with a vengeance."
About 80% of stock on the floor in each Lover's Lane store is dedicated to apparel, he said, and they carry clothing for both women and men. They also sell what he calls "romantic gifts" and "bedroom essentials," adult toys, massage products and even CBD products. Find a Lover's Lane location near you HERE.
