TROY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man is facing a drunken driving charge after police stopped him for driving very slowly, but recklessly, in Oakland County last week.
Police got a call shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, from a witness who said a possible drunk driver who'd just got off of I-75 and was reportedly "swerving all over the road," while headed north on Rochester Road.
Responding officers found the suspect vehicle, now in the area of Big Beaver and John R roads, and made a traffic stop "after observing the driver traveling 18 mph and swerving," according to the police report.
Officers spoke with the driver, identified as a 70-year-old Shelby Township man, noting that he appeared lethargic, his speech was slurred and there was "an odor of intoxicants" coming from his vehicle, police said.
The driver told officers he'd only had one beer before getting behind the wheel.
However, after it's alleged that the driver failed a field sobriety test, police said the man blew a 0.16% BAC on a breathalyzer test.
A 0.16% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is twice the legal limit for driving under Michigan law.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up where a chemical breath test showed results of 0.13% and 0.14% BAC.
Police said the man, whose name was not released, was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
