Just as early evening shoveling began in Farmington Hills, neighbors banded together to free a USPS driver who got stuck.

Many local municipalities, including Detroit, have issues snow emergencies, which means residents and visitors are required to move parked vehicle off city streets, in order to allow plows to pass.

Other cities declaring snow emergences so far include Birmingham, Riverview, Lincoln Park, Belleville, Huntington Woods, Garden City, Brownstown Township, Rockwood and Inkster. Times will very and this may not be a complete list, so check with your own municipality.

Issuing a snow emergency in effect for Warren at 11 p.m., Mayor Jim Fouts said plowing will be completed by garbage route.

He urged residents to be patient.

"This is the largest snowfall this year and with the size of Warren it will take some time. Please do not drive unless you absolutely have to!," Fouts said.

The mayor added: "Get your vehicle off the street early rather than after the plows have come by. If you do not have a driveway than make arrangements with a neighbor or at last resort, use your lawn area. We have NO desire to punish you for not taking your vehicle off the street, but try to be a good neighbor and get your vehicle off the street and help others if they can't do it on their own. If we all work together this will be a safe time period for all."

Ten counties in the area — including Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties — were all under a Winter Storm Warning that expired at 8 p.m.

Forecasters say Metro Detroit see some more snow Thursday afternoon, Friday and again on Sunday.
