SOUTHGATE (WWJ) – A Downriver man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his wife and moving her body.
Gil Vega of Southgate was expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of his 43-year-old wife, Ilena Luna.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office says Vega, 44, is also facing charges of tampering with evidence and felony firearm.
A relative reported Luna missing on Monday after they had not heard from her since Friday.
Southgate police officers were called Monday to the home where Luna and Vega lived in the 16850 block of Walter Street to investigate.
Authorities allege Vega shot Luna inside their home and then moved her dead body to another location in Washtenaw County. Officials did not disclose that location.
A possible motive in the shooting was not released.
The prosecutor’s office says more facts and evidence in the case will be placed on the record at Vega’s preliminary exam, which will be scheduled after his arraignment.
