DEARBORN (WWJ) -- One person is dead and another is hospitalized following a weekend crash under investigation in Dearborn.
At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Dearborn Police responded to the intersection of Greenfield Rd. and Michigan Ave. on a report of a single-vehicle accident.
Police said a preliminary investigation found the driver of a Chrysler Town and Country minivan was head eastbound on Michigan Ave. to Greenfield Rd. when he left the roadway at the intersection, striking utility poles and a tree.
The driver, identified as a 30-year-old Detroit man, died of his injuries, police said. His passenger, a 27-year-old Detroit woman, was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
Although the investigation was still on ongoing on Monday, police said "speed and intoxicants appear to be contributing factors."
“This was truly a tragic incident where a life was lost," said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin, in a statement. "On behalf of the entire Dearborn police department, I send my condolences to the victim’s family.”
