TROY (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old man has been charged under Michigan's 'Super Drunk Laws' after he was pulled over for a series of traffic violations in Troy.

The Troy Police Department on Thursday released details about the traffic stop and arrest that happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 30, along Long Lake Road near Corporate Drive.

At around 3:20 a.m., police said officers stopped the driver of 2017 Audi A4 for speeding, failing to maintain a consistent speed, and swerving on the roadway.

When they approached and spoke with the driver, officers noticed that his eyes were glassy and there was an odor of alcohol coming from the car, according to the police report.

Police said the man, identified as a Troy resident, agreed to attempt some field sobriety tests, but performed poorly.

He then blew a .229% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a preliminary breath test and was arrested.

The driver was taken to the Troy Police lock-up where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .21% and .23% BAC.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More, which is more than twice the legal limit for driving in Michigan.

Under Michigan's Super Drunk Laws, drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, including a possible jail term of up to 180 days if convicted.
