ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) - One man is hospitalized with a serious head injury after he crashed into a vehicle stopped at a mailbox while riding his dirt bike in St. Clair County on Thursday.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said the two-vehicle crash occurred just before 6 p.m. when deputies along with the Marine City Fire Department and Tri Hospital EMS all responded to the scene at Plank Rd. west of Indian Trail Rd. in Cottrellville Township.

It was reported that a 40-year-old Cottrellville Township woman behind the wheel of a 2019 Subaru Forester had stopped in the road to check her mail box when a 2023 KTM dirt bike ridden by a 20-year-old Cottrellville Township man crashed into the vehicle.

The man, who was the dirt bike's sole occupant, was ejected and sustained a serious head injury. Deputies said he was not wearing a helmet.

The 20-year-old was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens where he remains hospitalized with critical injuries, the sheriff's office stated.

At this time, drugs and alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation with the St. Clair County Crash Investigation Team.

No other details were released.
