Stoney Creek High School student in critical condition, hit by car in Rochester Hills

Sheriff's officials say the driver involved is a 16-year-old boy

(WWJ) An Oakland County student remains hospitalized in critical condition after she was hit by a car driven by another student.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the teenager, who is a senior at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, was struck by a 2006 Hyundai Elantra while she was trying to cross Tienken Rd., just after 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The teen, who lives in Rochester Hills, was by taken by EMS to local hospital, where she was in treatment for critical injuries on Tuesday.

Officials said the crash happened on eastbound Tienken Road near Clear Creek Drive, which is about a mile from the high school.

The driver involved was identified by the sheriff's office as a 16-year-old boy from Shelby Township, who is a junior at Stoney Creek. The boy was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was not injured, officials said.

OCSO accident investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, as the investigation continues.

Officials noted that the speed limit on Tienken at the crash site is 40 mph, while they have not yet said how fast the believe the driver was going.

No names were released.
